ESL - ESOL Lesson Plans

efl, eol, esl lesson plans

Suitable for most ages because the language used is contemporary - not babyish!

Jazzles songs are a fun way to structure English Second Language Lesson Plans and other ESL activities because singing songs is a wonderful way to get into the mood of a language, to learn its culture and rhythms. It is especially helpful for memorizing different word sequences, for understanding the rhythm of a language and for perfecting ESL pronunciation. Now you can read some teachers' experiences on how they have used Jazzles for a fun way and effective way of teaching English as a Second Language.

Think about Pop Stars. Have you wondered how they can sing in several languages with almost perfect accents? That is because singing allows you to concentrate very carefully on each subtle sound until you get it right. That is why Jazzles is becoming a popular ESL Teacher Resource for ESL activities, games, drama, ESL vocabulary and reading activities that is also fun!

Translate Page to Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, Korean.

Early exposure to music develops a child's ability to perform spatial-temporal tasks. From birth, infants have the ability to distinguish all the sounds of the world's languages. According to linguists, a child who learns a second language as early as possible, and before the age of 10, can very likely learn to speak a second language without the trace of an accent.

You know from your own experience, that songs learnt in childhood are often remembered for a lifetime. This simple idea is how you can use Jazzles Alphabet Clever Songs to help your children learn English.

Ana Cláudia M.Santos Story

Last year, Ana from São Paulo wrote to ask if she could somehow buy Jazzles. She volunteers her time to work with the children of the very poor helping them learn English. Ana left school around 11 but as an adult gained a Computer Science qualification working on a project to help counter high rates of illiteracy in Brazil. We were pleased to contribute our CDs and follow her experiences with interest. This Christmas she wrote:

"I love all (Jazzles) songs, pretty and very sensible. I find that of all my class, I am the one that more is had fun. [smile] I discovered that I love to work with children. They are wonderful. The children love the (Jazzles) drawings and musics. When lesson finish, they do not want to go. They always want more. Thank you." Ana Cláudia

"Having 26 ESL kids is a challenge, but your CD and accompanying material is wonderful."

How Jazzles helps ESL Students.

Hi, I'm Lesley Beth I'm an experienced teacher, working daily in school with children just like you!  Like me, you know from your own experience that everyone loves to sing. Through singing, no matter whether child or adult, a student enjoys repetition of language concepts. This helps to build a student's self-esteem and motivation to learn more language in any setting. In the process of singing a song, children naturally memorize every word, enriching their vocabulary and achieving an astounding speed in learning English Language structure. That is why I created Jazzles.

Jazzles uses amusing, humorous, catchy-songs to get children quickly talking and singing English in a fun musical way. It's effortless and it's memorable, helping make a child's first exposure to English a confidence builder for his or her future fluency achievements.Collage letter 'D'

Each Jazzles A-Z song focuses on words beginning with one focus letter. The lyrics use lots of rhyming words starting with the same letter's initial sound - for example, for letter D, the song says - 'Don't dig dog. Don't dig up Dad's daffodils!' This is called 'alliteration' and the Jazzles' songs use LOTS of alliteration to help children to memorize and recall easily  the use of over 400 everyday English words.

You will find using Jazzles easy. Children will love their English classes because they love the catchy Jazzles music and the rhyming songs especially written for developing English Language skills. Children from preschool up will join in and willingly sing over and over again until the Jazzles English lyrics are memorized. Like Pop Stars, this helps children understand, recall and pronounce the English words, some difficult, without a trace of an accent!

Jazzles is also one of the easiest ways you can show parents and families the importance of various learning activities - - such as singing, drama, art, crafts, drama, use of percussion instruments -- in the development of their children's English Language development, self-esteem and therefore their school success.

"I was very intrigued with your product! I teach kindergarten and have many children in my classroom that are ESL students. I truly believe that music helps them "hear" the sounds that the letters make and helps them learn the language faster...not to mention that they love music! I teach a letter a week to ensure that I eventually cover all the letters. Many of the letters are also used as a thematic unit...example, letter Pp is for pumpkins. I teach this letter and its sound during a week in October. Thanks for the "new" material...I like to use products that keep me fresh!"

Hello, Beth.
I think the Jazzles will appeal to kids from the 6th grade to the last year of junior high school or the 9th grade out here in Japan (11 years to 14 years old). Many kids (pre-school to junior high aged) are taking private English lessons, and these kids would benefit from your product. They need and want help speaking English: improving their pronunciation and conversation skills. One significant feature that got me to buy Jazzles was the "Get your phonics CD..." pitch in the advertisement on your web site. There is a growing interest to use phonics in English education in Japan.
That's the niche that I see Jazzles filling in the Japanese ESL resources market.

Quote ...from an ESL teacher in Spain..

"Dear Lesley,
You can't imagine how fast children can learn when it is in a "funny" way. Although some Jazzles songs have some quite difficult words for them, they are able to sing them with a perfect accent!!!
My wife first uses the painting sheets and the material you kindly sent me to teach them the meaning of the words and the meaning of the "story" of each song. This is usually in Spanish. When children have been working with the material for a whole week, they are totally ready to listen to the music and get the meaning of it all!!!!
I sometimes surprise myself with how children are open to learn and it is a real pity that we don't fully use this capacity. Furthermore, the songs are very nice and they love it. Sometimes, my wife, outside the English lessons, keep the CD on as ambient music as children really enjoy it."

Hanging word Bank

Quote ...from an ESL teacher in Turkey...

"Dear Lesley,
I am happy to tell you that I have received your CD by post today. So far, we sang one of the songs (One day at the Zoo). They enjoyed it very much.
They wanted to spend the whole lesson (45 min. x 2) with singing and dancing. Some of the students tried to sing it as solo. After class, they begged me to continue.
I can not put my feelings and everything into words about how much they have loved it and how I felt from their happiness. The songs are really so original and different from those classical children songs we know. They are not only songs but they have also a functional purpose.
My children got highly motivated.."

I am so happy - your Jazzles package arrived!
The songs are funny and easy to read. You are right with your selection of frequency words - that helps a lot. Thanks for all your open hearted support!!!

Your concept of "worksheets/music" is great because music is the frame for my Multi-cultural students. I've got a project in a High School with emigrant students (e.g. Russia, former Yugoslavia). We are studying the process of language acquisition in second language (German) and foreign language (English). The students are 6th, 8th, 7th and 10th Graders on level C.

That means their skills are poor and therefore our problem is to make them more interested in learning English. The didactic medias they are used to work with are as poor as their interest....
Again - thank you for your support!"

----- Original Message -----

Here are some experiences with the Jazzles lyric songs CD combined with the worksheets:

I did it with 6th and 10th graders learning English since 2 and 5 years in a German High school - you remember? We framed the (i.e. Jazzles) song "Rowing Boat" with "Free time activities/Hobbies" and the "Melon" song with "What a picnic!"

During the English lessons I considered a high motivation. The positive result was, all students were able to sing these songs and to write them down by heart. They learned syntactical modifications, e.g. transforming the song texts in another personal form or using another grammatical tense.

Step by step I will link all your Lyrics with themes in any English textbooks. For learning the words (vocabulary) your picture worksheets are very supportive.
Best regards
