American Library Association
Booklist Magazine says:-
"… the 30 entertaining songs on this
recording ... rarely settle for common alphabetical cliches.
Musically, the selections are outstanding with skilful performances
by the Jazzles, as the young singers are known. The original tunes
are creatively "jazzy …"
Why Jazzles works – Quotes from Teachers!
Note: Names of Teacher excluded because of our very
strict privacy policy.
General
"The theme sound-letter of each song is repeated so
often and in such distinct and strong way that it really helps in
the process children go through when they realize and distinguish
single sounds in words."
Another Quote
"You have an excellent product
The CD design; the ease of use by teachers, parents and children;
the choice of vocabulary; the phrase structures, the phonemic
awareness which is built in: the many opportunities to enlarge on
the vocabulary through the additional optional activities.
I literally have my Jazzles CD with me every day. My students
especially love the "cC" (Clever Kid) - song because there are many
things which they can't do yet but it also talks about the things
they can do."
Music
"...every song has easy rhythm to move to. It's
amazing that every song is a different musical style. We can use
instruments to add to the rhythm and create dances. Everyone has
more than one favorite song that they can end up humming or singing
while they work."

Words of Songs
"...easy to memorize as the words have strong
visual interest and engage and inspire imagination. The words link
to areas in Science and Social Studies as well as the obvious Arts
and Crafts. Some of my more talented children are able to use
characters from the songs in their own writing. They do variations
on the text and try to write their own verses for the songs..."
Learning in General
"I find Jazzles an extremely successful and a
valuable tool in capturing the young child’s initial interest
and facilitating learning through hearing and/or seeing the
connection between print and language. Having the words easily
available from the same disk as printed lyrics helps reinforce the
connection between aural and written language."

- Select a sound-letter to learn - see my
suggested order of
teaching. Print out the song lyric sheet and its 'phonics'
coloring page and photocopy for each child. Now on your CD Player
or PC CDROM drive, play the selected song from the Jazzles Alphabet
Clever Songs CD.
- Sing along with your children. Get them to
learn the words! With so much rhyme it is easy! And certainly there
is no rote!
- Point out the focus letter (e.g. aA.)
everywhere it appears on the focus letter lyric page. Let children
highlight this letter on their lyric sheets with a felt pen.
- Discuss the meaning of the song lyrics.
- Talk about the meanings of all the words starting with
the focus letter (e.g. aA, bB, cC,) within the context of
the lyrics.
- Encourage children to think of words beginning with the
targeted 'sound' and identify the 'letter' in the
environment - e.g. signs, magazines, etc.
- Play 'I Spy' with the focus letter.
- Practice writing the 'letter' or make its
shape from 'Play Dough' - there is a lower and upper case outline
font for each of the focus letters on their coloring page.
- Collage or paint a large capital or lower case
letter. For extra fun and letter reinforcement, try using
collage materials starting only with the same focus letter - e.g.
for the letter 'sS' = sand, salt, seeds etc . (More ideas are
available in the printed Jazzles 'Alphabet Collage' Book.
- Hang these collage letters with streamers and
attach words that start with the same focus letter - see my example word bank for the
letter 'eE'.
- Use the coloring sheet to identify objects in
the picture starting with the focus sound.
- Ask your children to create their own picture of the
song.
- Use the content of the songs to promote
discussion regarding anything from science to geography
-
-
'aA' song = bullying...
'bB' song = looking after belongings...
'cC' song = clever kids always try...<
'dD' song = why do dogs dig...
'vV' song = volcanos and natural disasters...
- Identify different musical instruments used in
the tracks.
- Perform songs with children playing percussion
instruments or groups of children singing the 'echo'
backing parts.

and parent nights!
- Make a dance or movements to go with the songs
- e.g. waving arms to simulate the Orange Octopus tentacles in the
'oO' song.
- Discuss type of music and listen to other music in the
same musical style - Jazzles musical styles include Dance,
Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country, Gospel, Disco, Swing, Ballad, Funk,
Latin and Showtime!
- Make a sound/letter book for the letter -
paste, draw or paint pictures with related words.
- Read books related to each 'letter' song - for
example a book about elephants for the letter 'eE'.
- Make a book out of each song - lots of
opportunities - see
descriptions of the songs.
- Make 3D models of items or animals in the
songs - e.g. 'vV' = make a volcano with Play Dough or
Paper Mache; 'aA' = make an ant with wire and corks, etc.
- Watch related videos about subjects or animals
in songs.
- Use worksheet ideas from the printed Jazzles
'Alphabet
