Cutting, pasting, coloring, and tracing provide children with practical
kinaesthetic experience in the use of each letter in a variety of reading and
writing experiences to further develop their understanding
of sound-letter relationships.
This example is like a jig-saw egg puzzle. Children cut
out the jig-saw egg pieces and, using glue, put them back together
on the relevant areas in the top page.

Every Jazzles Activity page is different in concept - some alphabet activities pages require
children to draw their own pictures to match text, some
use labeling, others use match word to picture techniques, some are match
initial letters. Unlike most activity books, Jazzles has a wide variety of
techniques to maintain interest and stimulate multiple intelligences.
Children
should be encouraged to creatively add to each 'completed'
sheet before finishing. For example, draw some zoo animals in the background of
the 'Z' activity sheet. Or, on the 'O' sheet, paint the water around the
octopus. For the 'D' worksheet, suggest using glue and soil to collage the
garden areas. Just use your imagination and you can easily extend these
activities!
Step 5. Print Out This Dictionary Page To Create A List of Learnt 'e E' Words
(Source: From the Soft-Cover, Printed Jazzles 'Create A
Dictionary' Book.)
Print, Photocopy This Create-A-Dictionary Page
The best way to organize this activity is as follows:
- Having learnt the song, list the words of the
focus letter song on a chalkboard, colorful paper spreadsheet,
overhead projector or white board.
- Ask your children to help arrange the words in alphabetical
order.
- Now they can record the words on the appropriate
dictionary page.
NOTE: As your children's dictionary skills develop, you can introduce strict alphabetical order,
explaining how to arrange the words by the second and third
letter (etc.).

It is important for children learning to read, write and spell, that they create their own personal collection of most loved
and commonly used words. Arranging words into
their own dictionary creates a valuable resource
children can use - while developing a variety of other dictionary skills
essential to their future learning.
With the Jazzles 'Create A Dictionary', each letter of the alphabet
has its own Dictionary page plus there are 8 pages for gathering
'theme related' words.

"Phonics instruction improves children's ability to identify words.
Useful phonics strategies include teaching children the sounds of letters in
isolation and in words, and teaching them to blend the sounds of letters
together to produce approximate pronunciations of words. Another strategy that
may be useful is encouraging children to identify words by thinking of other
words with similar spellings. Phonics instruction should go hand in hand with
opportunities to identify words in meaningful sentences and stories. Phonics
should be taught early and kept simple."

Jazzles --- Language Rich Lesson Plans ---
"As art and life are inseparable, art should be an integral part of the
language learning classroom. Provide many opportunities for students to experience and talk
about art and to develop fine motor skills and art vocabulary as they develop
concepts of line, form, space and color. Use drawing to introduce new
vocabulary and structures, and encourage students to use drawing to aid them
in communication when they don't have the words."

Subject: RE: Your email arrived after 15 Months!
Dear Lesley,
Well at least you got my email! I used jazzles with my Year 1 class last year (5-6 year olds) and they
absolutely loved it. I had 3 children with Down Syndrome and they loved to sing and point to the words, and always asked for them over and over again. This year I am using them again and
many of the teachers in the school have asked me where I got it from,
so it would probably be a good idea for Scholastic to run it again.
Thanks Again

Hi! I recently purchased a Jazzles CD and I LOVE IT! The kids
love it too! I am a Head Start teacher. The kids like the CD so
much, I let them listen to it in the learning center by
themselves.

Hi Lesley,
I really find your songs and story line fantastic. I am a tutor and teach phonics.
I find it difficult to get a child to blend and say the word.
Thats all
Bye!

I was very intrigued with your product! I teach kindergarten and have many children in my classroom that are ESL
students. I truly believe the music helps them "hear" the sounds that the letters make and helps them learn the
language faster...not to mention that they love music! I teach a letter a week to ensure that I eventually cover all
the letters. Many of the letters are also used as a thematic unit...example, letter Pp is for pumpkins. I teach this
letter and its sound during a week in October. Thanks for the "new" material...I like to use products that keep me
fresh!

I have just received my Jazzles CD It was more than I expected.
The music is not geared for just 5 years old. I can use it with
my older children as well. It is very hard to find emergent
literacy that is not too young. I have written to (name deleted)
because she is doing a lot of research in singing and reading. I
think this something to show at the big conference in October.

Dear Lesley, I am a Field Editor at a school book publishing
house. After having discovered your music on the Internet, I
could not forget your website. I had to come back to hear the
tunes again and again. I could not resist wanting to possess the
whole set. The music is so good and the singing superb. I like
the lyrics too. Thank you all for such a wonderful piece of
work. My warmest regards to you and all ye beautifully-voiced
folks. I will also recommend it to other teacher friends.
